Going up

Squirrel!

A few of my favorite things: my nephew, ridiculous but charming humor and good memories. When I was home for Christmas, I watched Up with my nephew. Like a good chunk of people who saw that movie, he immediately latched onto inserting “Squirrel!” as a non sequitur in conversations, loudly and with precocious comedic timing. (Regarding the latter, I’d expect no less from my brother’s son.)

My nephew’s on my mind today because I’m thinking about where we’ll go for our annual Spring Break trip. Last year we went to the Grand Canyon and the year before we ventured to San Diego. He wants to go to the beach this year, so I need good Oceanside destinations for kids. He’ll be 8 this trip.

Gimme s’more

marshmallow skewers

Admit it. As soon as you saw the snowy power lines, you immediately thought “mmm…marshmallow skewers” too. No? That was just me? Fine, whatever. Either way, I ended up roasting marshmallows on my gas range (no, I’m not baller enough to have a fireplace). So I win.

Snow Day

Snowy power lines

Denim on a clothes line, snow on power lines, both lines with lovely shades of blue.

I finally dug my car out (borrowing a garden shovel from a neighbor to do it) after 45 minutes of solid shoveling. The roads still are largely unplowed once you get off of the main roads, which made for an interesting drive up to Silver Spring this afternoon for a photo shoot. We’re expecting another ~6″ of snow on Tuesday. It would be greedy to hope for another snow day… so I’ll just say I would not hate another one.
