She sat to the left of the stage last night at Black Cat, appearing uncomfortable and maneuvering herself to be as unobtrusive as possible, constantly checking her phone and keeping her eyes down most of the time, even when the bands were performing. She reminded me of a heroine in a chick lit novel – not realizing yet that she is beautiful, that she was being eyed appreciatively rather than critically (and because she sat, probably inadvertently, in light that cast a perfect spotlight on her), and that she was missing the moment because she was worried about who was or was not on the other end of that phone.
